Sodemann and Rowe Set to Compete at NCAA Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Committee announced the participants in the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. Sophomores Taylor Rowe and Chasse Sodemann will both be competing in three events at the National Championship meet.

Sodemann will be competing in the 50 free (44th-21.38), 100 breast (5th-54.77) and 200 breast (26th-2:04.69) while Rowe will be swimming in the 500 free (14th-4:30.69), 200 free (44th-1:43.20) and the 1650 free (10th-15:47.11).

Sodemann won the 100 breaststroke championship posting a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Open and Championship record, WPI pool record and school record with a time of 54.77 and was also part of the school record breaking 200 medley relay team. Ironically his time of 54.77 would also be an NCAA Division I B cut time.

Sodemann is unbeaten all season in the 100 breaststroke and qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship with his record breaking time which is currently fifth best in Division III.

Rowe won the 1,650 freestyle at the NEWMAC Championship in a NCAA B Cut time 15:47.11. He was the NEWMAC runner-up in the event last season.

Last year at the NCAA Championship, Rowe placed 16th in the 1,650 freestyle to earn honorable mention All-America honors. He had a time of 15:58.53 to earn his best finish of the championships. Rowe also placed 29th in the 500 freestyle on with a time of 4:37.24 and he placed 27th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:14.08 last year at the NCAA's.

Both of these athletes helped the Bears to a second place finish at the NEWMAC Championship for the team's best finish since 2008.

The championships will be held March 15-18 at the Conroe ISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas.  The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and the City of Shenandoah will serve as hosts.  A total of 527 participants (479 swimmers and 48 divers) will compete in the championships.

Student-athletes qualified for the swimming portion of the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered.  Divers will be determined by performances achieved at the regional diving meets Feb. 24-25.  The complete list of all swimmers competing in the championships is available at www.usaswimming.org/ncaa. Selected divers will be added to the website Monday, Feb. 27.

NCAA.com will video stream all sessions Wednesday through Saturday of the championships.
