TOP MOMENT #5 – SWIMMING SENDS TEN TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS; FUHS EARNS ALL-AMERICA HONORS 

As we approach the holiday season and the New Year, we will take a look back at the Top Ten moments in Coast Guard Academy intercollegiate Athletics during the 2018 year.

We have compiled a list and will unveil one every other day, culminating with the announcement of the top moment on New Year's Eve.

TOP MOMENT #5 – SWIMMING SENDS TEN TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS; FUHS EARNS ALL-AMERICA HONORS 

Coast Guard sent 10 swimmers to the NCAA Division III Championships, six men and four women and freshman Eric Fuhs earned All-America honors with an eighth place finish in the 200 breaststroke.

Fuhs was the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year as he won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events at the conference championship. He also set school records in both the 200 breaststroke (2:00.88) and the 200 IM (1:51.42). He earned All-America honors while junior Taylor Rowe earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 1,650 freestyle for the third straight season. Sophomore Joe Rodriguez earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 50 freestyle while the 200 medley relay team of junior Patrick Jackson, junior Chasse Sodemann, senior Ross Garrett and Rodriguez also took home honorable mention All-America honors for the Bears.

On the women's side, the 800 freestyle relay earned honorable mention All-America honors at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. The relay of freshman Sarah Passilla, junior Kristen Young, freshman Emily Benson and junior Christine McCulla placed 8th in the timed finals with a time of 7:38.25 and finished 16th overall to cap an outstanding season.
