Rodriguez Honored With STEM Cadet Leadership Award

Senior three-time All-American swimmer Joe Rodriguez received a 2019 Great Minds in STEM Cadet Leadership Award this afternoon at the 2019 GMis Conference at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Each year, GMis is honored to make this presentation to rising STEM role models, innovators and leaders from the nation's service academies and ROTC programs.

Rodriguez, an Electrical Engineering major, was the only Coast Guard cadet to receive the honor.

He earned a trio of All-America honors last season when he placed third in the 50 freestyle, seventh in the 100 freestyle and eighth as part of the 200 medley relay.

He holds the school record with in the 50 freestyle (19.88) and the 100 freestyle a time of 44.53. He is also part of the school record holding 200 and 400 medley relay teams and the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams.

Rodriguez, was named to the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) Scholar All-American team last season.
