WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Bears top two singles and doubles team traveled to play in the USTA/ITA New England Men's Championship tennis tournament at Williams College. They have 18 outdoor hard courts and had great weather for tennis, the morning started crisp in the high 40's that quickly warmed up into a beautiful day in the high 60's.

Senior Mark Guentert and freshmen Thomas Hackett represented the Bears in singles. Mark's first round match was against Bowden's #2 player Kyle Wolfe. Mark played well and played aggressive, winning when he served and vollied, but ended up losing 6-1, 6-1.

Thomas played Bates' #2 Fergus Actor who has a big serve and forehand that kept Thomas on the defense. Thomas had some success by mixing up his serve and attacking the first ball but ended up losing 6-1, 6-2.

Seniors, Mark Guentert and Weston Fortna represented the Bears in doubles and cruised past Colby-Sawyer's doubles team: Cass McCann and Alex Wright 8-2. They attacked the net very well and advanced to play Bowdoin's #3 doubles team in the second round.

Mark and Wes played great doubles against a strong Bowdoin team who defeated the number 5 seed from Tufts. Mark held serve early in the match but Weston was broken on his first two service games. They broke back to be down only one break again succeeding by attacking the net and hitting firm volleys, but finally lost 8-5. They will re-unite with the team to play Assumption at home for Parents Weekend tomorrow at 10 a.m.
