Camels Slip Past Bears 5-4

NEW LONDON, Conn. -  Coast Guard lost a tight match to cross-town rival Conn. College in non-conference action 5-4 Thursday afternoon.

The loss is the Bears first of the season as they fall to 3-1. The Camels earn their first win of the season and improve to 1-2.

Coast Guard started off on the right foot as junior Tom Hackett and sophomore Arthur Wicke won number three doubles over senior Patrick Farrell and freshman Zak Danz to take the early 1-0 lead.

The Camels however moved into the singles portion of the match up 2-1 after winning number one and number two doubles.

After Wicke fell to senior Ben Sachs 6-2, 6-1 Hackett moved the Bears back within one at number one after he beat junior Charlie Williams 6-2, 7-3.

Senior John Hu battled hard to tie up the match pushing it to the third set at second singles before he fell to junior Will Cannon 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

Sophomore Adam Bahney also battled at number five singles taking the first set 7-6 but fell to freshman SangJin Song in the final two sets 6-3, 6-3 sealing the win the for the Camels.

Senior Mike Melampy (6-3, 5-7, 6-3) and junior Jack Phillips (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) scored Coast Guard's final two points of the match making the final score 5-4.

The Bears are back in action on Saturday, March 31st against their second NESCAC foe in a row as they take on Trinity at 1:00 PM.
