Top Moments from 2017-18: Men's Tennis

During the summer months, we want to take a look back at some of the outstanding accomplishments and special moments from the 2017-18 athletic seasons and revisit those events that each of our 25 teams celebrated this year.

We hope you enjoy looking back at the great accomplishments by our cadet-athletes and teams. We will go in alphabetical order today we highlight men's tennis. Next up on Friday, will be men's track and field.

HU EARNS ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS AS A SINGLES PLAYER
Coast Guard Academy senior John Hu was named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-conference team as a singles player. Hu was the Bears #2 singles player and was 4-1 in NEWMAC matches this season. He guided the Bears to a third place finish in the conference standings as Coast Guard advanced to the NEWMAC semifinals for the fifth straight season and finished 8-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play. He becomes just the second Coast Guard player in the last six years to earn All-conference honors a singles player. Weston Fortna was named an All-conference singles player for the Bears in 2016.

BEARS EARN FIFTH STRAIGHT TRIP TO NEWMAC SEMIFINALS
Coast Guard finished third in the NEWMAC regular season going 4-2 in conference play and fell to third-seeded Babson 5-4 in the tournament semifinals. The team finished 8-5 overall under first year head coach Jordon Smith. The Bears had regular season wins over Division II Assumption as well as blanking archrival Merchant Marine 9-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Junior Tom Hackett led all singles players with 11 wins on the season while Kyle Fager, John Hu and Arthur Wicke all posted nine wins in singles play. The doubles team of freshmen Chris Lansing and Fager led the way with a record of 12-4 in doubles action.
