NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard took two of three doubles matches and swept all six singles as the Bears beat Wheaton 8-1 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match moved indoors due to rain.
Coast Guard improves to 7-7 overall and 3-2 in NEWMAC play while the Lyons drop to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
All three doubles matches were 8-7 with Kyle Fager and Chris Lansing (#2 doubles) and Arthur Wicke and Lucas Arora (#3 doubles) winning to give the Bears a 2-1 lead going into singles action.
Tom Hackett won 6-4, 6-1 at #1 singles, Wicke was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at # 2 singles, Fager posted a 6-3, 7-6 win at #3, Jack Phillips won 6-3, 6-4 at #4, Lansing won 6-0, 5-7, 10-7 at #5 singles and Arora was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at #6 singles for the Bears.
The Bears are back in action at Emerson on Wednesday in a NEWMAC match at 3:30.
