Men's Tennis Falls in NEWMAC Semifinals

BABSON PARK, Mass. –  Babson swept doubles play to start the match and the second-seeded Beavers beat third-seeded Coast Guard 6-0 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament semifinals.

It was the fourth straight time that Coast Guard has lost to Babson in the NEWMAC semifinals. The Bears finish the season 8-8.

The Bears had a lead in all three of the doubles matches, but Kyle Fager and Chris Lansing lost 8-7 at #2 doubles while Tom Hackett and Jack Phillips dropped a close 8-6 decision at #1 doubles.

In singles play, Hackett fell 7-5, 7-5, Fager was beaten 6-0, 6-3 at #2 singles and Phillips lost 6-3, 6-1 at #4 singles.

Lucas Arora was close to getting the Bears a point at #6 singles as he lead 6-3, 5-1 when the match was stopped.

The Bears has dropped three 7-5 first sets in other singles action with Hackett at #1, Arthur Wicke at #3 and Lansing at #5.

It was the last match in the careers of seniors Hackett and Phillips, who were both four year starters for the Bears leading the Bears to the four straight NEWMAC semifinal appearances.
