Bears Place 2nd in Season Opener

NEW LONDON, Conn.—Ben Wohlhaupter and Thomas Bondurant won an event and qualified for the Division III New England Championships as Coast Guard placed second in its season-opening Winter Invite #1.

Rhode Island College won the meet with 127 points edging Coast Guard's 122 points. Merchant Marine was third with 116 points.

Wohlhaupter won and qualified for the Division III New England's in the pole vault (14-1.25) while Bondurant won the weight throw and qualified for the Division III New England's with a throw of 48 feet, 7.5 inches also for the Bears Bryan Ayotte won the shot put (41-3) and Adam Scalesse won the 55 hurdles in 7.88  for the Bears.

Ben Hannon took second in the 400 meters (51.81), Jordan Lee was second in the mile (4:34.95), James Martin was second in the 3,000 meters (9:12.58) and Clay Kosack was second in the high jump (5-4.25)

The Bears 4x400 relay team of Kelcey Smith, James Dawkins, Scalesse and Joe Kelly won in 3:31.99.
