Kosack 8th After Decathlon Day One

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Clay Kosack is in eighth place after the first day of the decathlon at the Division III New England Championships at Colby College.

Kosack started off his day with a solid 100 meter dash mark as the first event only to find out there was a timing error. He had to re-run the 100 meters a second time 30 minutes later and into a head-wind. His time was 11.83.

Down a little but not out, Kosack jumped 18 feet, eight inches in the long jump and threw the shot  of 37 feet, 11.5 inches, the third best throw in the field.

In his fourth event, he cleared five feet, 3.75 inches in the high jump.

Closing out the day, Kosack clocked his fastest 400 meter dash time and the second fastest mark among the decathletes crossing the line in 50.85.

Kosack will return for day two of competition tomorrow to contest the 110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500 meter run.
