WATERVILLE, Maine -- Clay Kosack had an outstanding day during the second day of the decathlon as he won two of the five events and had a second and third place finish to finish second earning All-New England honors at the Division III New England Championships at Colby College.
He entered the day eighth and placed seventh in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.42 in the sixth event of the decathlon and first event of the day.
Kosack then placed second in the discus (112-10), before winning both the pole vault (13-7.75) and the javelin (161-10). In the final event, the 1,500 meters, he placed third (4:28.83)
He finished with 6,167 points second to only David Hardison from Bates, who won with 6,308 points.
During Day One, Kosack started off his day with a solid 100 meter dash mark as the first event only to find out there was a timing error. He had to re-run the 100 meters a second time 30 minutes later and into a head-wind. His time was 11.83.
Down a little but not out, Kosack jumped 18 feet, eight inches in the long jump and threw the shot of 37 feet, 11.5 inches, the third best throw in the field.
In his fourth event, he cleared five feet, 3.75 inches in the high jump.
Closing out the day, Kosack clocked his fastest 400 meter dash time and the second fastest mark among the decathletes crossing the line in 50.85.
