Kosack 4th in Decathlon After Five Events
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Clay Kosack is fourth after the first day of the decathlon at the Division III New England Championships at Springfield College.
Kosack, who placed second in the decathlon last year, started the day by placing second in the 100 meters with a time of 11.59. He placed third in the shot put (36-5.75), fourth in the long jump (19-5.25), fourth in the 400 meters (52.02), and was tenth in the high jump (5-3).
Kosack, an NCAA qualifier in the decathlon last season, has 3,044 points heading into the second day of competition. The leader, Adrian Samsel from MIT has 3,557 points.
He was eighth after the first day last year, before having a huge second day to finish second.
Coast Guard freshman Kaci Rex is 10th off 11 with 2,686 points.
Rex ran an 11.98 in the 100 meters, and 57.41 in the 400 meters. He leaped 18-7.75 in the long jump, 5-6.5 in the high jump and threw the shot put 31 feet, 11.5 inches.
