Bears Open Outdoor Season at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Coast Guard opened the outdoor track & field season at the Navy Spring Invitational Saturday.

Senior Raeford Penny led the Bears finishing second in the 400 running 50.31. Sophomore Aidan Becker took ninth in the same event (51.84).

Senior Luke Rehfuss was fifth in the 400 hurdles (57.36) while junior Sydney Johnson was ninth in the 800 (1:59.56).

In the 200, junior Michael Bishop was eighth crossing the line in 22.32 followed by classmate Jacob Pawlina in ninth (22.59).

The Bears two 4x400's took third and fourth as the quartet of sophomore Aidan Becker, junior Nicholas Frystak, Rehfuss and Penny ran 3:23.07 while Pawlina, junior Matthew Perlich, sophomore Miguel Moroles and senior Brett Foster.

In the 3K steeplechase, freshman Adam VanDeren took sixth crossing the line in 10:15.02 while the Bears had three top 10 finishes in the 5K with freshman Matthew Doyle (15:46.52) taking sixth, junior Colton Atkinson (15:54.56) taking ninth and junior Alex Kearney (15:57.41) taking tenth.

In the field events, junior Justin Jezuit was sixth in the hammer (142-07) and fifth in the discus (139-04) while freshman Dante Roberts finishing eighth in the discus (125-03) and the shot put (39-5.25).

Coast Guard is back in action on Wednesday, April 4th, when they dual with Merchant Marine in a battle for a point for the Superintendent's Trophy.
