NEW LONDON, Conn. – Ben Zarlengo won both the discus and the hammer as host Coast Guard captured its own Coast Guard Spring Invitational.
The Bears bested the seven team field with 201 points while Division II Franklin Pierce was a distant second with 126 points.
Zarlengo won the discus (134-11) and the hammer (157-10) while Justin Jezuit was second in both the discus (130-6) and the hammer (144-10).
Also in the field events, Michael Frick won the pole vault (14-5.25) while Denis Daly was second (13-11.25) and Edward Carroll placed second in the triple jump (40-10.25)
On the track, Benjamin Taminger won the 800 meters (1:55.11) while Brett Foster was third (1:56.06).
Luke Rehfuss won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.87.
The Bears 4x400 relay of Foster, Taminger, Sydney Johnson and Matthew Perlich won in 3:24.43.
Raeford Penny won the 200 meters (22.45) while Michael Bishop was second (22.58), Nick Frystack third (22.64) and Jacob Pawlina fourth (22.65).
Pawlina won the 400 meters in 50.28 while Perlich was second (51.91), Aidan Becker placed third (51.99) and Miguel Moroles was fourth (52.05).
The Bears are back in action on Tuesday when they host archrival Merchant Marine at 3:00 with a chance to secure the Superintendent's Trophy for the 2017-18 academic year.
