Bears Take Seventh at Division III New England Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Coast Guard took home seventh place at the Division III New England Championship hosted by MIT.

The Bears took seventh with 31 points while the Engineers won with 162.5 points.

Coast Guard's points was dominated by the relays as the 4x800 of junior Sydney Johnson, freshman Josiah Davis, junior Benjamin Taminger and senior Brett Foster took home first place with a time of 7:38.14. Their time just misses the school record set last season (7:38.05).

The 4x400 of juniors Nicholas Frystak and Matthew Perlich and seniors Luke Rehfuss and Raeford Penny ran the second fastest time in school history with a second place finish (3:16.91).

The 4x100 of Penny, junior Michael Bishop, sophomore Miguel Moroles and junior Jacob Pawlina were fifth with a time of 42.56. 

Top individual finishers for the Bears earning All-New England honors were Rehfuss in the 400 hurdles (fourth place, 54.13), freshman Adam VanDeren in the 3K steeplechase (eighth place, 9:49.59) and junior Ben Zarlengo (sixth place, 172-6).

Coast Guard is back in action next weekend at the All-New England Championship hosted by Dartmouth.
