NEW ORLEANS, La. – Senior Raeford Penny, and juniors Nicholas Frystak and Benjamin Taminger were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Individual All-Academic team for the 2017-18 indoor and outdoor track and field season.
It is the second straight year that Penny (Civil Engineering), Frystak (Mechanical Engineering) and Taminger (Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering) earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
Penny and Taminger earned All-America honors this past indoor season as member of the men's 4x400 team that competed at the National Championship.
Frystak earned All-New England honors at the Open New England Championship as a member of the Bears 4x400 team outdoors after taking third place and running the second fastest time in program history.
Including the Scholar Athletes of the Year, a total of 408 men earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2017-18 track & field seasons.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
- Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship.
- Finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.
