NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Ben Zarlengo has been named the NEWMAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week after breaking a pair of school records at the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College on Saturday.
Zarlengo broke a pair of school records to lead Coast Guard as he took second in the hammer with a school-record throw of 183 feet, 9 inches, that throw is tied for the 13th best in Division III this season. He broke the school record of 181 feet, 10 inches set by Kent Mack in 1977.
He was not done, as later in the day, he broke the school record in the discus with a throw of 163 feet, 1 inch breaking the mark of 159 feet, 8 inches set by Doug Brown in 1969. That throw is also the 13th best throw in Division III this season.
The Bears are back in action next weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton and the Springfield Invitational.
