Men’s Cross Country projected third in first-ever NEWMAC preseason poll
BOSTON, Mass.-The Coast Guard men's cross country team has been voted to be tied for third with Springfield in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference inaugural preseason poll. The poll was voted on by the head coaches of each of the league's eight member schools.
The Bears finished fourth at last year's NEWMAC Championships in what was then a seven team field. MIT grabbed the top spot – and every first place vote – in the poll, largely on the strength of 15 consecutive NEWMAC titles. WPI was tabbed to place second, followed by Coast Guard and Springfield, with Babson rounding out the top five. Clark and Wheaton came in at sixth and seventh, respectively, while newcomer Emerson was slotted at number eight.
Coast Guard returns all seven of its scorers from the 2012 NEWMAC Championships. The season gets underway on September 7 when the Bears travel to take part in the Smith Invitational. The NEWMAC championship will be held on Saturday, November 2 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
