Men’s cross country takes 8 of first 21 spots, third place overall

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.-Senior Gary Ezzo ran a 16:51.42 at the Smith College Invitational to pace the Coast Guard men's cross country team to a third place finish among 10 teams. Overall, the Bears placed nine runners finish in the top 25 places on a hilly course in Northampton, Mass.

Ezzo was the Bears top finisher, coming in eighth overall at the meet. Senior Jordan Lee was the second Coast Guard runner across the line, coming in 13th overall with a time of 17:07.30. Next in scoring position was fellow senior Brad Pienta, crossing the line in 17:08.05, good for a 15th place finish.

The Bears then had five runners finish as a group as they placed 17th through 21st. Junior James Martin was the lead finisher in that group, followed by classmates Nick Foster, Joey O'Connell, Jonathan Lash, and freshman Zachary Velasquez.

The team will be off next weekend, but will return to racing at the University of Southern Maine Invite on September 21st.
