NEW LONDON, Conn.-The Coast Guard men's cross country team has leapt into the United States Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association New England Regional rankings following a strong start to the 2013 season. This past weekend the Bears raced to a second place finish at the Connecticut College Invitational and saw a number of runners post career-best times.
Of the ten teams that are ranked in the regional poll, seven of them are also ranked in the latest national poll. Middlebury remains at the top in the region, followed by fellow NESCAC teams Williams, Bowdoin, and Bates. Perennial New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference power MIT comes in at fifth, followed by three more NESCAC schools (Tufts, Colby, and Amherst). Keene State (who narrowly defeated Coast Guard over the weekend) checks in at ninth with the Bears rounding out the top 10.
For Coast Guard, it marks one of the biggest highs for the program since placing ninth at the New England Regional Championships in 2005.
The Bears return to action on Sunday, November 3rd when they compete at the NEWMAC Championship to be hosted by Babson at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
