NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard Academy men's and women's cross country head coach Ethan Brown has named captains for the 2014 season.
Seniors Jonathan Lash (Gainesville, Va.) and Joe O'Connell (Edina, Minn.) will captain the men's team while seniors Beth Gollin (Oneonta, N.Y.) and Cameo Ulbricht (Ocean Park, Wash.) are the captains for the women's team.
Lash will once again be one of the Bears top five runners this season. Last year, he was the third Bear to cross the finish line at the Division III New England Championships and was also sixth in the 5,000 meters the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Track and Field Championships in the Spring.
O'Connell earned All-conference honors last season with a ninth place finish at the NEWMAC Cross Country Championship while also being named to the NEWMAC All-Academic team for the second straight season.
Gollin earned All-New England and All-conference honors last season as she placed 35th at the Division III New England Championships and eight at the NEWMAC Championship. She also competed at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships and placed 13th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
Ulbricht was the fourth Coast Guard finisher at the ECAC Championships last year as the Bears placed 12th and she was the tenth Bear finisher at the NEWMAC Championships as the team placed third.
Both the men's and women's team will open the 2014 season at the Smith Invitational on September 6th.
