During the summer months, we want to take a look back at some of the outstanding accomplishments and special moments from the 2017-18 athletic seasons and revisit those events that each of our 25 teams celebrated this year.
We hope you enjoy looking back at the great accomplishments by our cadet-athletes and teams. We will go in alphabetical order today we highlight men's cross country. Next up on Wednesday, will be women's cross country.
BEARS PLACE THIRD AT NEWMAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The Bears scored 85 points to placed third at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship. Coast Guard ran as a pack as their top five were only 15 seconds apart. Sophomore Andre Gallant was the Bears top runner crossing the line in 26:44 (19th place) followed by junior Alex Kearney (26:54, 21st place), senior Christian Fields (26:55, 22nd place), junior Colton Atkinson (26:58, 23rd place) and sophomore Jacob Panning (26:59, 24th place).
FOUR NAMED TO NEWMAC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
Coast Guard placed four cadet-athletes on the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Cross Country Academic All-conference team. Junior Colton Atkinson, a Civil Engineering major, earned All-Academic honors for the second straight season. Sophomores Thomas Jordon (Electrical Engineering), Jacob Panning (Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering) and Andrew Segalla (Government) were each named to the Academic All-conference team in their first year of eligibility for the honor.
GALLANT NAMED NEWMAC RUNNER OF THE WEEK; BEARS BEAT MMA
Sophomore Andre Gallant was named the NEWMAC Runner of the Week following the first race of the season while the Bears also beat Merchant Marine at the season-opening Trinity Invitational. Gallant finished in sixth place (17:04.8) helping the men to a second place finish. Coast Guard put their top five runners in the top 15.
