Bears Earn Top-15 Finish at Competitive Purple Valley Invitational

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. –The Coast Guard men's cross country team took home 12thplace at the Purple Valley Invitational hosted by Williams College Saturday morning.

In a field that featured seven teams in the top-30 in Division III, the Bears scored 336 points for 12thplace. RPI, ranked sixth in the latest Division III poll, was first with 41 points followed by host Williams, ranked seventeenth, with 72 points.

For the second straight week, junior Andre Gallant was Coast Guard's top finisher crossing the line in 53rdplace (27:31.5). Gallant was followed closely by senior Colton Atkinson who finished in 57thplace (27:36.2).

Sophomores Matt Doyle (27:48.2, 67thplace) and Adam VanDeren (28:05.3, 74thplace) finished third and fourth for the Bears.

Rounding out the top seven for Coast Guard, was senior Alex Kearney (28:18.4, 85thplace), junior Jacob McGlumphy (28:46.2, 92ndplace) and freshman Owen Piatt (28:48.0, 93rdplace).

Coast Guard is back in action next weekend at the competitive Paul Short Invitational in Lehigh, Pennsylvania.
