Bears Place Six on NEWMAC All-Academic Team

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Coast Guard Academy men's and women's cross country teams placed a total of six runners, three from each team, on the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-conference team.

Junior Marine and Environmental Sciences majors Kirsten Carson and Olivia Suski were named to the team for the second straight season while sophomore Mia Huncharek, an Operations Research and Computer Analysis major, earned All-Academic honors in her first year of eligibility for the honor.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2018 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

On the men's side, senior Colton Atkinson, a Management major, earned All-Academic team honors for the third straight season.

Senior Benjamin Taminger, a Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering major and sophomore Logan Bonner were named to the team for the first time.

The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 11 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
