FORT BENNING, Ga. -- In the combined three event individual aggregate, Free Pistol, Standard Pistol, and Air Pistol, sophomore Brian Kim won the National Pistol Championship, firing a 1643 over the three events. Sophomore Helen Oh was fourth with a 1613.
The Open Air Pistol Match was the final match of the week. The Bears needed outstanding performances from all shooters in order to catch up to the top two teams, U.S. Military Academy and the Citadel.
Oh (firing a 561) and Kim (firing a 560) did just that and finished the qualification round in 2nd and 4th place respectively. The Bears finished the team match in third place behind the Black Knights of the Military Academy and the Bulldogs of the Citadel.
In the Individual Air Pistol competition, Oh and Kim both competed in the Finals, where the top eight shooters fire an additional ten shots. Kim shot a perfect 10.9 on the last shot to defeat Anthony McCollum of Ohio State University by 0.3 point, 661.6 to 661.3. Oh finished in third place for the day, firing a 659.5. The other team members were sophomore Annika Lehenbauer firing a 538, and freshman Kevin Bennett firing a 535.
In the combined three event team aggregate, the Bears finished third overall, firing a 6309, behind USMA's 6372, and Citadel's 6345. This is an outstanding performance by all participants.
