NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Coast Guard hosted Wentworth and MIT in the Chase Hall Range for an Air Rifle and Smallbore match in conjunction with the NCAA Qualifier on Saturday.
Freshman Nick Paisker paced the home team in both the smallbore and air events with a 558 and 579 respectively. While Coast Guard (2159) had to bear up against a strong smallbore score engineered by MIT (2190). The Bears took the air event by ten points as Paisker came within one point of his season high, junior Marek Pilarski (559) tied his season best, sophomore Katiya Resney (567) shot her best score of the year, and junior Alexis Chavarria-Aguilar (560) backed them up with a solid performance. Wentworth was third in air with a 2013.
In the smallbore event Paisker posted a 558, Chavarria-Aguilar a 552, senior Daniela Andrade (533), and Resney (516) and combined for a 2159, which was 31 points behind MIT. The strong effort in air was not enough to overcome the smallbore deficit and MIT took the symbolic combined event 4445 to 4424.
Coast Guard closed out the regular season last week against Loyola, accumulating an 11-3 in conference competition and 12-8 overall.
Coast Guard will be hosting nine teams for the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference championship next week and will be the final event of the season.
