NEW LONDON, Conn.-- The Bears bounced back from a tough match against D1 sister academies by sweeping the Admiral's Cup, a Mid Atlantic Rifle League Conference Quad-match, against John Jay College, State University of New York Maritime, and Wentworth Institute of Technology.
John Jay trimmed the Bears in Air Rifle, 2306 to 2290. Junior Nick Paisker top gun for Coast Guard was second overall to John Jay's Lilly Graham's 582. Junior Lindsey Critser backed Paisker with a person best 573 along with Freshman Alexandria Harrington's 577. Freshman Skye Ambrose made her maiden appearance in the scoring four with a personal best 560. SUNY Maritime was third, posting a 2185, while Wentworth closed out the scoring with a 2016.
Coast Guard's Smallbore Rifle effort sealed the deal for a win in the event, as well as the overall victory. Paisker again led the Bears shooting a 567, the match high score. Critser's personal best, a 560, was second overall on a tie breaker with John Jay's Graham. Harrington pressed Critser, shooting a 559, as Randall Ford's 533 rounded out the team. Newcomer Jacob Dupree shot a personal best smallbore score just out of the scoring four. John Jay was again second, with a 2174, behind the Bear's 2290. A 2067 gave SUNY Maritime third.
Overall Coast Guard scored a 4509, two points off of the school record, for the win. John Jay again played second fiddle with 4480, and SUNY compiled 4242. Wentworth, disadvantaged as they only competed in the Air Rifle stage finished fourth.
The Bears are now 9-3 overall and 9-0 in conference competition. They close out the first half of the season next weekend with an away match against University of Tennessee at Martin.
