CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Coast Guard beat MIT 4410-4201 opening with a season high 2199 in smallbore Coast Guard was led by sophomore Alexandria Harrington's season best 562. Captain Nick Paisker put together a 560 to back up Harrington. Freshman Dylan Lorence forged a personal best of 551 while sophomore Randal Ford shot a 526 to round out the top four. Eight of the top ten scores in the match were posted by Coast Guard with Sophomores Marshall Grant, Jacob Dupree, and Melissa Brizzi joining the top four.
Although good enough for a win, the Air Rifle performance was a bit lackluster compared to training and earlier match scores. The Bears only mustered a 2211, a score below what they have come to expect. Harrington and Paisker again went head to head with the Harrington again just sneaking by Paisker, 560 to 557. There is something to be said for consistency as Ford had his second triple nickel, 555, in as many matches. Jacob Dupree closed out the team scoring with a 539.
With a dozen cadets on the trip it was an opportunity for the newer shooters to get match experience. Sophomore Marshall Grant and freshman Nyjah Turner shot smallbore and air rifle while freshmen, Alaric Stone, Joseph Busching, and Kaden Nichols got to dip their feet into the waters of collegiate Air Rifle competition.
Coast Guard, now 3-2 on the season, and undefeated in conference play, is again on the road November 5th at Air Force, where they will compete against sister academies Air Force, Army, and Navy in the annual President's Cup Match.
