NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Coast Guard closed out the 2017-18 campaign with a win over MIT clinching an undefeated season in Mid Atlantic (MAC) Rifle League play.
Freshman Hunter Blankenship led the Bears to the victory with a yet another personal best in smallbore competition. His 577 was supported by classmates Grayson Wheeler, who fired a 570, and Seth Strayer's 564. Team captain Randall Ford rounded out the top four with a 550 giving the Academy a 2261 to MIT's 2142. Freshmen Aidan Uvanni and Anthony Contreras, who were named MAC Shooters of the Month for January, also posted personal bests in smallbore.
Air rifle competition saw Strayer and Blankenship battle it out for team honors with Strayer slipping past Blankenship 572 to 570. Wheeler posted a 561 and Ford a 557. Coast Guard bested MIT 2260 to 2189 in air and 4521 to 4331 for the victory.
The Bears are 10-13 overall and perfect 10-0 in regular season competition in the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference. Coast Guard is idle until March 3rd when it competes in the MAC Tournament at MIT.
