NEW LONDON, Conn. - Six Coast Guard Academy varsity rifle athletes have earned Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholastic All-America honors, including two repeat honorees.
To earn the honor, a student-athlete must have maintained at least a 3.2 grade-point average (GPA) for the Fall 2017 semester. One Bear, Junior Marshall Grant, a Marine Environmental Science major making his second appearance as a CRCA Scholastic All American, earned 4.00 GPA this past semester.
Junior Randall Ford, Mechanical Engineering, is also being awarded the honor for the second time.
Freshmen Anthony Contreras, Government; James Hall, Civil Engineering; Seth Strayer, Naval Architecture; and Aiden Uvanni, Operations Research and Computer Analysis, are all making their maiden appearances as CRCA scholastic All Americans.
"The entire coaching staff is very proud of our cadet-athletes who have been honored for their classroom performance." Assistant Rifle Coach Hap Rocketto said it best when he said, "This award recognizes the hard work that our shooters put in, not only on the range training and honing their skills, but in the classroom as they prepare for service as a commissioned officer in the Coast Guard."
