NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference has announced its end of year honors and Coast Guard rifle shooters figures prominently.
A trio of freshmen, Grayson Wheeler, Seth Strayer, and Hunter Blankenship, were named to the All-conference Smallbore Rifle, Air Rifle, and All-Rookie Teams. Wheeler finished the season ranked first in conference in smallbore and fourth in air rifle. Strayer held down second place in both disciplines while Blankenship was third in smallbore and fifth in air rifle.
Coast Guard was recognized as the conference champions in both disciplines, going undefeated in regular season conference action as well as winning both disciplines at the MAC Championship Tournament. Strayer was also presented with a trophy recognizing him as the MAC Championship Tournament Individual Smallbore Champion.
Junior Randall Ford was named an All-conference shooter in Smallbore and Air Rifle, fifth and sixth over-all respectively, for the third consecutive year. Classmate Jacob Dupree, also a multiple year All-conference Air Rifle Team member, was ninth overall in Air Rifle.
Aiden Uvanni and Anthony Contreras, freshmen riflemen, both placed in the top 13 in both disciplines and were named to the All-Rookie Team.
Bears Assistant rifle coach Hap Rocketto was honored with the MAC Conference Robert Ketzner Service Award. This award is given periodically to an individual in recognition of exemplary service to the MAC and the sport of rifle shooting.
The books are now closed on the most successful season in recent memory. Coast Guard went undefeated, established new records, and took on some of the best shooting school in the nation, including the reigning National Champions, and will take a little time to reflect on its accomplishments and then set its sights on building on this year's success.
