Why did you choose to come to the Coast Guard Academy? I chose to come to CGA because I saw it not only as a great opportunity to get a top-notch education, but also to do something different from what I had ever done before. I grew up in Iowa, so this was quite the change in lifestyle, but I love it.

How long have you been sailing? How did you start sailing? I sailed recreationally on lakes in Iowa before I came to the CGA. I started  sailing competitively during my fourth class year at the CGA. I showed up for the first day of practice and the coaches haven't been able to get rid of me since.

What is your favorite thing about the sailing team at Coast Guard? Walking down to the waterfront with a strong southerly wind blowing always gets me excited for sailing. I love spending time with all the Bears too!

What other activities/positions/clubs are you involved with on campus? I am a 2014 Class Council representative.

What is the sailing achievement that you are most proud of? I'm most proud that my teammates elected me as their team captain this year.

What are your future sailing plans and career goals after graduation? I plan on racing at a local yacht club wherever I end up and buying a boat to cruise around in. As for a career, I plan on going into the Marine Safety field after graduation.

Tell us something that your teammates would be surprised to know about you. I have perfected the "inverted bail."
