Why did you choose to come to the Coast Guard Academy? I grew up on the Jersey shore, and wanted a career that allowed me to be near and/or on the water as much as possible.
How long have you been sailing? How did you start sailing? I started sailing in the 4th grade after I won an essay contest for a scholarship for summer sailing lessons at Shrewsbury Sailing and Yacht Club. I started racing the following year and have been sailing ever since for my yacht club, high school, and now the Academy.
What is your favorite thing about the sailing team at Coast Guard? I like that we get to travel a lot. It's always nice to spend the weekend in Boston or Newport and awesome when we get to go to Florida and other warm places in the spring.
What other activities/positions/clubs are you involved with on campus? Women's Leadership Council and the Genesis Council.
What is the sailing achievement that you are most proud of? I'm a big fan of small victories like going out when it's really windy and not flipping. It's also pretty nice that I've been able to keep sailing through high school and college.
What are your future sailing plans and career goals after graduation? I plan on staying in the Coast Guard as long as it’s fun or until I find something else I really want to do. I hope to stay sailing as long as I can. As a kid who stumbled upon sailing I definitely want to make similar opportunities open to other kids who wouldn't normally take up sailing.
Tell us something that your teammates would be surprised to know about you. If I hadn't written that essay in the 4th grade I wouldn't be here!
