Why did you choose to come to the Coast Guard Academy? I want to be a helicopter pilot! I think being able to rescue people while flying a CG airframe is awesome.
How long have you been sailing? How did you start sailing? I sailed Hobie Cats with my dad before coming to the Academy, but we taught ourselves and were really only good at flipping the boat over. Sailing on the team is the only experience I have learning to race, and everyone's taught me so much.
What is your favorite thing about the sailing team at Coast Guard? My favorite thing about the sailing team is our extended practices. On those days we get extra sailing time and the whole team hangs out afterwards and have dinner together.
What other activities/positions/clubs are you involved with on campus? I'm in the Adventure Club, Ski and Board Club, and Sustainability Club. I also go rock climbing with team members when I get the chance.
What is the sailing achievement that you are most proud of? I'm proud that I am able to roll tack! I never even knew it existed before this year.
What are your future sailing plans and career goals after graduation? Knowing how to sail will definitely be an asset for when I become an officer, and hopefully my kids will want to learn too. As far as my career goals go, I want to fly, but I also want to be stationed on a cutter.
Tell us something that your teammates would be surprised to know about you. I lived in a tent in New Zealand for three months which is where I learned to surf. I also used to be a ski racer.
