Major: Marine Environmental Science (MES)
Why did you choose to come to the Coast Guard Academy? I wanted to study the environment and I really wanted to make a difference with climate change. Specifically, I wanted to figure out how to stop the warming of the ocean and deterioration of the reefs and the expansion of the garbage patch, so I figure the Academy was a good place to start.
How long have you been sailing? How did you start sailing? I have been sailing for 3 months. I wanted to try something new after playing soccer for so many years.
What is your favorite thing about the sailing team at Coast Guard? I love how we are a family. I also like how everyone helps me get up to speed with my sailing knowledge. It really makes no difference that I had never sailed before.
What other activities/positions/clubs are you involved with on campus? I run indoor track, I am part of Ski and Board Club, and the Adventure Club.
What is the sailing achievement that you are most proud of? Learning how to tack and having fewer bruises!
What are your future sailing plans and career goals after graduation? My goal is to get better at sailing, especially in understanding tactics. In the future, I might want to work for NOAA or get my masters degree and work at an aquarium.
Tell us something that your teammates would be surprised to know about you. I used to be really shy and quite (but not actually). I feel like everyone knows everything about me already because we’re all really close.
