Why did you choose to come to the Coast Guard Academy? I love to sail and I love the water, so I figured that a sea going service with a great sailing team would be the perfect school for me. I also really like the idea of helping people and serving in a humanitarian service.
How long have you been sailing? How did you start sailing? I have been sailing my whole life. I started sailing before I even remember; all I have ever known is that sailing is something that my family is passionate about.
What is your favorite thing about the sailing team at Coast Guard? My favorite thing about the sailing team is the feeling that people are there for you and care about you. Everyone brings their own personality into the mix which creates an atmosphere that makes you excited for every weekend that you get to travel with them. I love the car rides to the sailing venues because we get to listen to good music and be ourselves; it’s a nice break from the school week.
What other activities/positions/clubs are you involved with on campus? I am in the Women's Leadership Council.
What is the sailing achievement that you are most proud of? I am the most proud of qualifying and going to Singlehanded Nationals in Long Beach, CA this year. When I joined the sailing team I never expected that I would have qualified and have gotten the opportunity to represent the CGA at such a high level event. It made me proud of myself and where I go to school.
What are your future sailing plans and career goals after graduation? My future goals after I graduate are to always keep sailing, whether it be leisurely or competitively. I want to make sure that my kids are a part of such a unique sport.
Tell us something that your teammates would be surprised to know about you. The East Coast has actually grown on me...even though I hate to admit it.
