Why did you choose to come to the Coast Guard Academy? I chose to come to the CGA for several reasons. I've always wanted to help people. I really like the size of the Coast Guard, how it is small and everyone has a special part to play. My dad is in the Coast Guard and so I have seen how much he loves his job, the opportunities he's had, and the places he's gone. I want to have those same awesome experiences.
How long have you been sailing? How did you start sailing? I have only been sailing for a year. During swab summer you go sailing as part of your training and I LOVED it. I loved being near the water. I talked to the coaches and they said to come to practice. This is my second year on the team.
What is your favorite thing about the sailing team at Coast Guard? The people. We are all going through the same things, both academically and militarily. Sailing is a chance for us to let loose and have fun. We are all here to get better individually and as a team.
What other activities/positions/clubs are you involved with on campus? Regimental Band, Ultimate Frisbee Club, and Sustainability Club.
What is the sailing achievement that you are most proud of? This year I sailed in my first intersectional and it was so much fun. I had worked really hard for a year and a half and it showed with me being chosen to sail.
What are your future sailing plans and career goals after graduation? I would really like to keep sailing after graduation; maybe buy my own boat just for fun. After graduation I would like to be stationed on a buoy tender or on a fast response cutter. I also plan on attending graduate school for chemistry.
Tell us something that your teammates would be surprised to know about you. I have moved 8 times and have gone to 3 different high schools.
