NEW LONDON, Ct.--The 75th edition of the Danmark Trophy hosted by the Coast Guard Academy attracted twenty teams from across the country, once again making it one of the most competitive events of the fall season. The Bears sailed well against the nation's best, finishing tenth overall.
Racing conditions were varied drastically throughout the weekend, causing several wind delays and multiple changes in the course configuration. Most races were sailed in a light north-northeast wind that proved to be inconsistent and unpredictable. Thirteen races in each division were completed by noon on Sunday when the breeze completely shut off for the rest of the day.
Dana Rohde, Madelynn Widmeier, and Anna Morin finished 2nd in A-Division with 97 points. In B-Division, Shane Riera, Morin, and Widmeier finished 18th with 159 points. The team combined for 256 points and 10th overall.
The College of Charleston won the Danmark Trophy with 197 points. Massachusetts Institute of Technology was second with 212 points and Roger Williams University was third with 228 points.
