Bears Remain Alive with Shutout Win

SPRINGFIELD, MASS.--(4/28/12)--All-American Hayley Feindel fired a six-hit shutout, the 60th of her career and moved into second place on the NCAA Division III all-time wins list as sixth-seeded Coast Guard beat fourth-seeded WPI 4-0 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament elimination game.

The Bears improve to 22-17 on the season and will play another elimination game at 4 p.m. vs. either #3 Wellesley or #5 Wheaton.

Feindel, who missed 16 games this season with a broken finger, won the 118th game of her career and is just two shy of the all-time Division III record of 120 held by Erica Hoyt of Muskingum from 2003-06. She walked just one and struck out 11 while allowing six singles in the victory.

Junior Holli Bastinck gave the Bears all the offense they would need when she blasted a two-run homer in the top of the first.

The Bears added an insurance run in the second on an RBI single by freshman Erin Lisko scoring classmate Chloe Harmon, who led off with a single.

Coast Guard closed the scoring in the fourth as sophomore Kaitlin Ward led off with single and later scored on an RBI double by junior Stacia Sarwinski.

Bastinck had two of the Bears nine hits in the win.
