Bears Beat Trinity 8-4

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/27/12)--Freshman Jesse Richardson was 3 for 3 while junior Holli Bastinck and freshman Chloe Harmon each drove in two runs leading Coast Guard, ranked 23rd nationally, to an 8-4 win over Trinity in a non-conference game.

Coast Guard improves to 12-7 on the season while the Bantams drop to 6-5 overall.

Trinity took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first as sophomore Christina Galese and freshman Hayley Lang led off with back-to-back singles. Galese came around on a wild pitch while Yang scored on an RBI single by sophomore Abigail Ostrom.

Coast Guard responded with three runs in the home half as Bastinck had an RBI single before Harmon delivered a two-run double for the 3-2 lead.

The Bears added two more runs in the second on an RBI double by senior Maddie Buchert, who later scored on an error.

Trinity cut the deficit to 5-4 in the third as Ostrom led off with a triple and scored on an error before an RBI ground out by junior Amelia Mostovoy.

Coast Guard added a run in third as freshman Kelsey Gray led off with a double and scored on a ground out by freshman Erin Lisko for a 6-4 lead.

The Bears closed the scoring in the sixth on RBI singles by Richardson and Bastinck.

Trinity threatened in the seventh by loading the bases with nobody out, but junior Catherine Walker (5-3) got the complete game win with a strike out and a line out double play to end the game.

Walker allowed 11 hits and two earned runs while walking four and striking out five in the win. Freshman Katerina Kolbe (3-2) went the first three innings for Trinity and took the loss as she allowed seven hits and six runs, five earned, with a walk.

Sophomore Devin Fellman also had two hits for the Bears.

Senior Katherine Poulos had three hits to lead Trinity while Galese, Yang and Ostrom each added two hits in the loss.
