No. 20 Babson Beats Bears

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/21/12)--Freshman Erin Young came off the bench and was eight for ten from 3-point range finishing with a career-high 28 points in just 21 minutes leading Babson, ranked 20th nationally, to a 96-47 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.


Babson has now won 55 straight NEWMAC games and the Beavers improved to 14-2 overall and 10-0 in conference play while Coast Guard dropped to 5-9 overall and 1-9 in the NEWMAC.

Young was four for five from behind the arc in each half scoring 14 points per period and finishing nine for 11 from the floor.

Senior Nicki Wurdeman added 16 points, eight rebounds and four steals, junior Sarah Collins had 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four blocks and three steals while senior Kathleen King finished with 12 points, and a game-high 13 rebounds to go with four assists and three steals for the Beavers, who have won six straight.

Babson scored the first nine points of the game and never looked back. The Beavers led 48-19 at halftime. Babson shot 46.8 percent from the floor in the game (36-77) while hitting nine of 16 from 3-point range (56.3 percent).

Coast Guard shot just 30.4 percent (17-56) and made just two of ten from behind the arc.

Freshman Dani Knox led Coast Guard with 12 points to go with four rebounds while classmate Jamie Waterman added 11 points and a team-high six rebounds.

Babson outrebounded the Bears 49-34.
