Coast Guard Falls to #22 Babson
NEW LONDON, Conn.—Senior Sarah Collins had a double-double recording game highs of 14 points and 16 rebounds to go with three blocks leading Babson, ranked 22nd nationally, to a 49-34 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Babson won its 71st consecutive NEWMAC game and improved to 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference while Coast Guard dropped its fourth straight to dip to 4-7 overall and 2-4 in the NEWMAC.
Coast Guard played early in the early going and led 11-10 following a layup by junior Larla Brown with 13:14 to go in the first half, but Coast Guard would make just one more field goal in the half. Babson went on a 19-2 run to take a 29-13 lead with 3:22 left in the first half. The Beavers led 31-16 at halftime.
Babson led by as many as 26 in the second half, as the Beavers were up 47-21 with 8:53 left, but the Bears would not lay down.
Coast Guard scored 13 straight points to pull to within 47-34 with 2:12 left.
Freshman Linnett Graber and classmate Kristen Ferola each added nine points in the win while Graber had a game-high five steals.
Brown led Coast Guard with nine points while freshman Meghan Fornaro finished with seven points. Senior Karli Collins led Coast Guard with eight rebounds.
Babson held a 41-30 advantage on the glass and shot 38.6 percent from the field (17 of 44) and made 4 of 10 from behind the arc.
Coast Guard shot just 22.6 percent from the floor (12 for 53) and made 5 of 18 from 3-point range.
