NEW LONDON, Conn.-Coast Guard Academy sophomore Dani Knox was named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Academic team. Knox, a second-year member of the women's basketball team earned recognition by posting a 3.75 cumulative GPA in just her first year of eligibility for the award.
On the court Knox had just as big of an impact as off, starting 13 games – primarily at the power forward position – and averaging 5.0 rebounds per contest, good for third on the team. She was one of just six players to appear in every game on the season in leading the Bears to their highest win total (10) since the 2007/08 season.
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2012 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 10 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
