Bears to Host NEWMAC Tournament Game on Wednesday

The Coast Guard women's basketball team has secured a first round home game in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against an opponent to be determined on Saturday.

The Bears, who are 18-6 overall and 13-6 in the conference, close out the regular season on Saturday vs. Springfield at 1 p.m. on Senior Day as Kaitlin Ward and Brittney Zimmerman play the final regular season home game of their careers. The 18 wins is the second most in school-history behind the 2007-'08 team which finished 25-5 and won the ECAC Championship.

Sophomore Torie Sutherland leads the team with 11.7 points per game while classmate Meghan Fornaro is second on team with 11.1 points per game. Junior Dani Knox (8.2 ppg.) leads the team with 7.3 rebounds per game.

Come out and support the Bears on Saturday at 1 p.m. and again on Wednesday at 7 p.m. as the team tries to win the programs first ever NEWMAC championship and gain an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history.
