NEW LONDON, Conn.-Coast Guard sophomore Torie Sutherland has been named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference All-Conference Team as announced by the conference.
The Houston native averaged a team-best 11.7 points per game while leading the club to their second-highest win total in school history (19), most conference wins in a season (14), and to the #3 seed in the NEWMAC Tournament. For Sutherland, it was the second year in a row that she led Coast Guard in scoring after averaging 10.0 points per game last year. In two seasons, Sutherland has now scored 552 points and pulled down 313 rebounds.
She also led the team in blocked shots with 17 while ranking second with 6.7 rebounds per game. She led the team in field goal percentage (37.4 percent), finished second on the team with 33 made three-pointers, and hit on 70.6 percent of her free throws and handed out 53 assists to rank third on the club in both categories.
Sutherland becomes the first Coast Guard player to be named to the All-Conference Team since Melissa Martinelli was a first team choice during the 2009/10 season. Her 53 career three-pointers already rank her in the top-20 in Academy History.
