NEW LONDON, Conn. – Every player scored on the Coast Guard roster on their way to an 89-33 victory over Pine Manor in a nonconference matchup.
Freshman Gill Gerton had her first collegiate double-double with a career high in both points and rebounds with 16 and 10 for the Bears. Junior Torie Sutherland had a season high 18 points and grabbed eight boards. Junior Meghan Fornaro added 13 points and six rebounds while senior Alexi Howland and freshman Jill Bray each had 10 of their own.
The Gators (4-3) were led by freshman Sabrina Vail who had seven points off the bench while junior Sybil Lynch scored five of her own.
Coast Guard (5-5) was in control from the tip running out to a 20-7 lead midway through the first half. The Bears were moving the ball well as eight of their first nine baskets came off of assists.
Pine Manor would only manage eight more points through the rest of the first half while Coast Guard tacked on 29 more taking a 49-15 lead into the second half. Sutherland shot 6-7 from the floor and 2-3 from beyond the arc scoring 14 points.
It was more of the same in the second half as the Bears dropped another 40 points in the second half and only allowed the Gators to score 18. Gerton led the way for Coast Guard in the second scoring ten straight points midway through the half.
The Bears shot a season high 54.3% (38-70) from the floor while going 5-16 (31.3) from three. Coast Guard dominated in the paint outscoring Pine Manor 54-18. Their 38 made field goals came off of 26 assists.
The Gators were 13-61 (21.3%) and shot 12.5%(2-16) from beyond the arc. Pine Manor, coming into the game averaging 93.5 points per game, was held to a season low 33 points.
The Bears return to action on Saturday January 10th when they host Emerson in a NEWMAC Conference game. The game will tip at 3:00 pm following the men's game at 1:00 pm.
