NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Coast Guard junior Meghan Fornaro has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her performance in a pair of wins last week.
Fornaro led the Bears to a 2-0 week pushing their school record win streak to eight before adding another win last night.
She averaged 23 points. 5.5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3.5 steals per game while shooting 60.7 percent from the floor (8-15) and hitting 3 of 6 from 3-point range. She had a career-high 28 points in a key 81-77 win over Wheaton shooting 11 of 15 from the floor in the win.
Fornaro leads the Bears and is fourth in the NEWMAC with 16.5 points per game shooting a team-high 47.7 percent from the floor.
She also leads the team with 73 assists and 53 steals to go with five rebounds per game.
The Bears are 16-7 overall and 10-4 in conference play. Coast Guard will host a NEWMAC tournament first round game on Feb. 25th at 7 p.m.
Coast Guard is back in action on Wednesday night when they look to extend their school record win steak to ten as they host Clark at 7 p.m.
