NEW LONDON, Conn. – Sophomore Amanda Roy knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 14 points off the bench as Coast Guard extended its school record winning streak to ten with a 82-32 win over Clark in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Junior Meghan Fornaro led all scorers with 17 points as she surpassed the 900 point mark in her career finishing the game with 911 points. Fornaro was 3 of 4 from behind the arc to give her 101 career treys.
Freshman Gill Gerton had 13 points off the bench while senior Leigha Steinbeck and junior Torie Sutherland each added ten points in the win. Fornaro and Sutherland each had a game-high eight rebounds.
Coast Guard improves to 17-7 overall and 11-4 in conference play while Clark drops to 5-19 overall and 2-13 in the NEWMAC.
Roy was 5 of 8 from the field while hitting 4 of 6 from behind the arc in just 11 minutes of action. Coast Guard made a season-high 13 three-pointers(13-28) in the game after making a then season-high 11 on Monday night.
Coast Guard led from start to finish. The Bears led 15-1 with 12:28 left in the first half and led by as many as 23 in the first half, 28-5 with 6:04 left in the half. Coast Guard led 35-16 at the break.
The Bears used a 24-0 run in the second half to take a 68-19 lead with 8:55 left.
Coast Guard shot 51.6 percent from the floor (32-62) while Clark was 9 of 58 (15.5 percent) from the field and made one of 24 from behind the arc.
The Bears held a 48-32 edge on the glass.
Freshman Torieana St. Pierre had had a team-high eight points off the bench for Clark.
Coast Guard can wrap up the #3 seed in next week's NEWMAC tournament with a win in the regular season finale on Saturday when the Bears host MIT at 1 p.m.
The Engineers are the last team to beat the Bears, back on January 17th, a 63-53 win in Cambridge.
