CHICOPEE, Mass. – In the team's final non-conference game of the season, Coast Guard topped Elms 64-38 Monday night.
With the win the Bears improve to 11-10 overall, while the Blazers drop to 7-12 on the season.
Elms was led by freshman Angelica Peguero-Flo who came off the bench and tallied a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Martinelli opened the game with back-to-back three pointers as Coast Guard jumped out to a nine point lead with 4:04 left in the first period.
The Blazers closed within six (15-9) with just over one minute left in the quarter on a made layup by Peguero-Flo.
The Bears took control of the game in the second starting the quarter on a 9-0 making the score with 24-9 with 6:17 left to play in the half.
After Elms cut Coast Guard's advantage to nine on a layup by sophomore Molly Moulton, freshman Brenna Farrington answered with a three-pointer pushing the Bears lead back to 12 and making the halftime score 29-17.
Coast Guard pulled away in the second, outscoring the Blazers by 14 points and wrapping up their 11th win of the season 64-38.
The Bears were 26-70 (37.1%) from the floor and shot 47.4% (9-19) from three. Coast Guard turned 17 turnovers by Elms into 20 points and controlled the paint with a 52-40 rebound advantage.
The Blazers shot 24.6% (14-57) overall and made 2-10 (20%) from beyond the arc.
Coast Guard is back action on Wednesday, February 7th when they host Smith College for the second time this season. Opening tip is 5:30
