NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Kennedy Guest-Pritchett was a perfect 10 for 10 from the field and finished with game-highs of 21 points and eight rebounds leading Smith to a 74-50 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Guest-Pritchett was 9 for 9 and had 19 points in the first half, playing just seven minutes in the second half as Smith improved to 17-5 overall and 10-3 in the NEWMAC, the Bears drop to 11-11 overall and 5-8 in the conference.
Senior Gillian Gerton led Coast Guard with 13 points and six rebounds while junior Micaela Martinelli added 12 points in the loss.
Smith senior Megan Holland had a game-high 10 assists for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers led from start to finish and held a 16-8 lead after one quarter. Smith would use a 12-1 run in the second quarter to open up a 32-14 with 1:39 left in the first half and the Pioneers led 37-16 at halftime.
Smith shot 54.5 percent (30-55) from the floor and made 2 of 9 from 3-point range. Coast Guard shot just 29 percent (18-62) and were 2 of 17 from behind the arc. Smith held a 44-31 edge on the boards.
Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday when the Bears play at Wellesley at 2:00 in a game with NEWMAC tournament implications.
